Like Luminous Lightning

Do you like to watch lightning? One of my roommates did. She also thought I liked to watch storms because the day she moved in she arrived to find me standing on my front porch in the middle of a bad storm. She soon found out I wasn’t there to watch the bad the storm, but had gone outside to move some plants before the storm hit and had accidentally locked myself out of the house!

For those of us in Michigan, you may have seen some amazing lightning last night. Christ’s return will be like lightning, but far more amazing and glorious. It will be sudden, but it will be evident to all.

Matthew 24:23-27      23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time. 26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Jesus’ first coming was quiet. He came as a baby and it wasn’t visible to all. However, He has given us clear details that His second coming will not be a secret. We won’t miss it!

If someone were to tell you that Christ had already returned to earth, what would you say?

Jesus gave us enough details in the Bible so that we won’t be deceived and are prepared for His return. How well do you and I know what He told us? Matthew chapters 24 and 25 have many details about His glorious “like lightning” return!
