Tues Devo: Motive vs. Defense

Proverbs 21:2 “Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts.” (NASB)

Hello,

We often are asked for the why in decisions we make. The problem is how we answer. I believe that we have come accustomed to answering in such a way that does not really say the why, but rather is our defense for our decision. We are good at defending – and society has come to a spot where challenging decision is often frowned upon as the focus is on individual freedom/choice….not real accountability.
But God doesn't want our defense – He wants the real why – the motive. We don’t have the chance to talk circles around Him and distract with defense while avoiding the why. He isn't scared of being up front about a sense of accountability to Himself.

As we make decisions, we need to be on the front line of ensuring our motives are honorable. Find someone in your life that isn't afraid to ask those questions and challenge you when it seems to be a defense, and not really the motive.

Have a blessed day,

Will Hill
