2 Corinthians 9:6-7 “Now this I say, he who sows
sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also
reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart,
not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (NASB)
Hello,
When I was a kid I was definitely a spender. I could save my
money for a little while, but didn’t do very well at saving for longer periods
of time. As I got into college I began to see the need to change that and
started doing a better job of saving. I knew the bills were bigger, and that
was only the beginning with “real adulthood” on the close horizon. As time has
gone forward I have definitely realized it is not about spending or saving –
but rather about making smart choices with the whole picture in mind. But the
journey of coming to that conclusion is what is important. I realized that no
matter whether I was focused on spending or focused on saving, I was focused on
me – and that was not the right focus. The right focus was on the impact to those
around me, and following what direction God was asking.
When I read this passage in 2 Corinthians I know the focus
is on money or things of value that are life necessities. That said; I do
believe the application to be with anything that we have been gifted by God. When
God lays on our heart to use what we have been given in any way, we must take
the focus from ourselves and put it to God and the situation which He has given
us the privilege to partake in.
Have a blessed day,
