Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
“Do not store up for
yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where
thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and
steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
I am on the association
board for our subdivision and this past year there have been a few residence
that want us to change the bi-laws to allow building sheds. The argument from that group is that if they
can’t have a shed then they may need to move as they have run out of
space. Of course there are those that
oppose it also who have said that it’s time to take inventory of what you are
storing and get rid of junk.
We are told in Matthew
that we are not to store up earthly treasures, “things”. Rather we should be storing up treasures in
heaven. What are treasures in
heaven?
Treasures in heaven are
a number of different things. Jesus is
one of our treasures. If we are committing
our resources, be it money, time or talents, to do his work, that is storing up
treasures in heaven.
How are you investing
what God has given you to produce more treasure for him?
