Luke 22:24-27 "And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest. And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant. For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves. (NASB)
Hello,
As Jesus was with those closest to him before His betrayal by Judas, I wonder what was going through His mind. He knew there wouldn't be much longer to share with the disciples and to give them instruction. I am sure He wanted to make the most of every conversation. So, then He hears them talking about who is the greatest among them - and He leaps at this opportunity to teach and share. Jesus reminds them that they need to have a different view of greatness than those who are in the world. He Himself was the example - greatness is shown through selfless service. It is proven when you have so much faith in God taking care of you and your eternal destiny, that you don't seek the positions or prestige of here and now that the world does - you just serve as God asks, and trust that He will take care of you in return...both now and in eternity.
As we come to Easter, and many of us talk perhaps a little more than normal about Jesus and what He has done for us, are you showing your faith through serving?
Have a blessed day,
Will Hill
